Opening Plenary (#LDC5) & 50 years of LDCs Celebration | United Nations

The world’s Least Developed Countries are in a race against time to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. The remaining years need to usher in a new global partnership to ensure these 46 countries benefit from social, economic and environmental development. 50 Years of LDCs: Now a New Generation of Partnerships for Progress The Fiftieth Anniversary Commemoration of the Least Developed Country category will be held on the opening morning of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), immediately after the high-level opening. This will be a key moment to set the tone and ambition for the entire proceedings. The commemoration event is being organized in pursuance of UN General Assembly resolution 74/232, which invited Qatar to host a segment during LDC5 to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the establishment of the Group of Least Developed Countries and encourages Member States to participate. The category of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) was established in 1971 by the UN General Assembly with a view to attracting special international support for the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of the UN family. Since then, the international community has set concrete and quantifiable support measures for LDCs in the field of Official Development Assistance (ODA), trade, climate change, technology transfer and related fields. The global development landscape has changed in those fifty years. Ongoing crises such as COVID- 19, climate change and conflict threaten to roll back many years of hard-won progress in LDCs. This confluence of factors provides an opportunity and highlights the necessity-for the international community to review the long development experience of the LDCs and catalyse a renewed trajectory. This commemoration event is an opportunity to do just that and ensure LDC5 is established as a major moment of delivery for the most vulnerable group of countries. ---------------------------------------------------- The Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5 ) in Doha, Qatar on 5-9 March, 2023 is a once-in-a-decade opportunity to accelerate sustainable development in the places where international assistance is needed the most - and to tap the full potential of the Least Developed Countries helping them make progress on the road to prosperity. Speakers: President of the Conference; Secretary-General of the United Nations; President of the General Assembly; President of the Economic and Social Council; Chairperson of the Group of Least Developed Countries; Prime Minister of Bangladesh; President of the European Council; President of Türkiye; Youth representative from a least developed country.

Echi Official Music video- Cill ft the Destiny Trust Children

ABOUT ECHI This isn't just a song; it's a visual anthem for a greener future; it's a timeless tune that speaks to the heart of our generation. "Échí" blends soulful melodies with thought-provoking lyrics, urging us to consider the impact of our actions on future generations. Cill's unique style, combined with the rich  voices of the Destiny Trust Children, creates a sound that's both nostalgic and forward-thinking. Through this collaboration, Cill sheds light on the work of the Destiny Trust Foundation, a beacon of hope, transforming the lives of vulnerable children in Nigeria, through their unwavering commitment to education, care, and rehabilitation while providing opportunities for children who might otherwise be left behind, empowering them to reach their full potential. The music video for "Echi" is a powerful visual journey that juxtaposes two worlds: one ravaged by environmental pollution and another filled with hope and sustainability. Filmed in the oil-spill-stricken Bodo Community in Ogoniland, in Rivers State, Nigeria, the video captures the stark reality of environmental degradation. Cill's commitment to highlighting this issue led them to travel to the region, amplifying the voices of the affected communities. This powerful juxtaposition serves as a warning and a call to action, urging viewers to take responsibility for the planet. The video is made possible by the generous support of Accountability Lab Nigeria, Ford Foundation, and Luminate, and is a testament to the power of art to inspire change. It's a call to action, urging viewers to embrace sustainability and work towards a greener future. #IACC2024 | The Fifth Column The Role of Music and Art in Keeping Power Accountable

This Workshop took place during the 21st International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC) held in Vilnius, Lithuania, from 18-21 June 2024. More info: https://iaccseries.org/ Description: We live in a world of fake news, social media bias, AI revolution and rampant disinformation. With so much happening all the time, how do we engage the general public in the fight against corruption and overcome information paralysis? Musicians have always played a role in society as truthtellers and unifiers, their messages even creating movements that rally peoples and nations around calls for justice and accountability. What is the role of the musician/artist in such a world? How do they cut through the noise? Could we envisage stronger connections between artists and civil society and if yes, then how? For the past 14 years Fair Play, a partnership between JM International and Transparency International, has worked to empower young musicians engaged in the fight against corruption through a biannual competition and a series of local events that raise awareness amongst youth and children. During this session, you will hear from musicians at the frontlines of the fight against corruption, as well as discover several best practices for mobilising young people through music. The panel will discuss the current attacks on artistic freedom across the world and what can be done as a global anti-corruption community to support artists so that they may continue to speak out against injustice and truth to power.
